spark of hope

how do you know if your coil is bad. took it off with the spark plug and gave it a couple pulls and no spark does that mean i need either new plug or coil.
i love this site and thanks

Re: spark of hope

it could be that the coil is too far from the fly wheel, you might have the ground wire on the coil touching the frame or motor. a blue spark is a good one. if you didnt move the coil then it might be bad.

Re: spark of hope

Is the spark plug grounded when you pull? If it's not, then there will be no spark.

A spark plug is the cheaper of the both options, so you can always get one and see if that's the problem. If it's not, well then you have 2 spark plugs, which won't hurt. Also, if you want to try something else before buying any new parts, the distance between teh flywheel and coil is the thickness of a standard business card, if it's any bigger than that, then that might be your problem.
