Angry Top end problem

I have an airfilter and velocity stack on my Lucky 7 type bike. Well, when the clip is on the 5th notch, the bike has great bottom and mid but sucks on top, the fourth is the same way. When it is on the fourth however, i can hold the throttle at like 3/4 and the bike accelerates how i think it should and the top end is smooth and goes quite a ways before it starts to bog down. The bike blows out a steady stream of smoke when you twist the throttle. Then I move the clip to the third and all the bike does is bog when the throttle is twisted up until half throttle, then the top end is better. Im wondering *** i should. My fingers are getting all blistered and raw from unscrewing the throttle cable from the carb and changing the clip so many times. I heard carbon fiber reeds will help WOT problems. Is this the WOT problem people refer to when they say those reeds will help?

Had about the same results with the stock set-up. 5 & 4 needle positions got rid of the low end bog but top-end was non-existant. Really smoked and required no choke to start on 1 pull.

The durnig a race my carb vibrated loose and developed an air leak. This really leaned it out and the bike was screaming (although not too controllable). A definate top-end increase.

Since then I have port matched the exhaust to the header pipe, ported the carb, Vstack and K&N. Now in the 3rd position I have no bog and it really wraps out untill about 3/4 throttle. Then the rrr's drop off. (probably too lean). Little smoke and need choke to start.

I have an adjustable jet on order to see if this will cure my top end and a triple taper needle to tame the bottom end issues.

I have a CF reed installed but still have the 3/4 drop off issue. Really from what i've read the CF reed will prevent flutter if I can ever get the rrr's into sub-orbit range.

My own personal "lucky 7" bike did this EXACT same thing. Triple tapered needle cured it.

Carbon fiber reeds will also help top end but you will lose your low end.

adrenaline-motorsports.com and no it will not hurt your low end. while your there some other goodies that work are the big bore kit, full circle stroker crank, adjustable main jet, IP2 pipe and fiberglass reeds (either for low to mid or mid to high)

starting point as in where do you first set it to? i put mine all together and screwed the needle jet in all the way (not tight just to where it stops) and then turn it 1 1/2 turns out. mine started right up. and i have yet to move it from there to adjust it.

It just sounds like its running a little rich. Try leaning out the air fuel mixture it should give you better top end.
