top speed bogging

hey guys, i just put a new pipe and air filter on my lucky 7 and now once it hits top speed it boggs down. if i let off the throttle i can squeeze out a little more speed then it bogs again. is there anything i can do to stop this?

yo carb might also be dirty, mine had water/dirt in it, and it did this. i let it dry out, and it still wasnt the best cuz there was dirt in it. I just cleaned her and it was all good

while youre riding unscrew your gas cap and see if that helps. If not take apart the petcock and see if that has gunk in it

thx guys ill try it out...but one question what does it mean to "open up" my carb?

in regards to the gas cap idea there isnt even a breather in the cap so thats probably the problem.

Your running too lean up top. Move up a jet.

i had the same problem with my bike, i changed air filter and i don't have this problem anymore

it's because there's not enough air entering your carb so when you twist the throttle to the top there too much gas for the air quantity. you can try to completely remove the air filter and do a quick run(if the conditions aren'T like dusty) to see if it'S your air filter

give us some news

Re: top speed bogging

Could also be your crank seals...my sons bike was bogging on the top end after it warmed up and it turned out to be crank seals.

Re: top speed bogging

I had this problem with my bike and I traced the problem back to a vacuum leak in the carb. Tried some ultimate copper gasget maker (silicon stuff) and it solved the problem. Check for tension on the bolts to the carb / intake / reed bolck... anywhere air could seep in. Make sure you're not taking in air anywhere after the air filter. Could be a quick-fix.

Always remeber to start with the simple stuff (once U crack into the bike it can get expensive... and U might just tamper with what's not broken, lol)

Re: top speed bogging

wow, alot of different opinions... i figured a top end bog means the jet is too small.. could a too rich condition cause that also??

Re: top speed bogging

Well I guess he'd need to read his plug and could then see if it is a jetting problem.

Re: top speed bogging

definately agree with BCRich... the plugs the best indicator of engine function... it's the best sensor on your bike.

check it out after a warm run (like 15 or so minutes just to make sure the bike got up to temp and worked properly)

read your plug and post back here, (Or get real millenia-aged and take a digi-pic of the plug and post it here...)

An engine stumble can really be caused by so many things...

Re: top speed bogging

It may be that your filter is restricting the bike of air.
