Unhappy Whats better big jet or small?

I noticed that when i run a smaller jet, my acceleration decreases but i it feels like i gain uptop, and when i use a bigger jet, my acceleration is great but it feels like i lose speed uptop. Has this happened to anyone else? I havent been able to do a plug check yet because i haven't been able to go the store to buy a few new plugs.

Re: Whats better big jet or small?

what size jets are you using? No jet is really bettier than another its just what ever size your bike runs best off of. I guess in a sence the bigger the jet that makes your bike run good the better because your dumping in more fuel and air which essentially more power comes from that, but jet size has a lot to do with the temperature and elevation that you ride in.

That depends on the carb. If you are using a 14/14, then you will just have to live with it. That is exactly why those carbs suck. If you are using the stock carb, then jet for the best running up top, and move the needle clip until you have optimum low and mid.

Re: Whats better big jet or small?

o ok so i should jet it according to top end performance? So use a smaller jet? Im using a stock 9/16 ported carb, and my needle clip is on the last position. Im not sure what size numbers are the jets that im using, i just was able to verify smallest to largest by using a sewing needle method.

i disagree, i love the dellorto reps... the only problem for me is that there is no way to control the amount of fuel going in at idle which causes a "loading up" problem but its easily solved by revving the engine while stopped and reducing idle time... i really like the dell reps. just my opinion..

Stockers have more ability to tune for low to mid and high. The dell reps do no have the feature.1 main jet and no adj on the slide. If you really do some research on jetting a 2 stroker carb.A dell would be out of the picture.Dells are good for guys learning how to jet a carb or dont know how.No offence!!!!

but thats the thing the dell is 14mm straight through a ported stocker isnt unless you change the slide. and who rides a cag 1/2 throttle thats why the sha's are good for cags cuz cags dont make any power so you just hold it wot for the full 14mm's of inlet and if the budget allows a true 16/16 will fit easily and will out do a ported stocker to the max any day

and as Matty boi said just dont sit there and idle blip that $hit! but if you're capable of tuning you should look into a real dellorto 15mm phbg carb it has all the necessary adjustments for a seemless ride at all throttle levels. just have to either make or buy the ebay cag manifold for the 19mm rep.

You just don't get it, do you? I RACE my cag. I don't cruise around on it like its a Harley. I need power through the whole range.

To spell it out: the SHA will run either lean in low/mid, which robs your bottom end for top end, or it can be jetted rich up top to give you better low end at the expense of top end revs. It's performance will ALWAYS be a compromise.

The stock carb allows you to dial in the carb througout the rpm range. You can have optimum low/mid AND top. That makes it all around better.

Yes, the 14/14 is a little bit bigger than a cag carb, but what about that big spray bar right through the middle of it? I'll take a 13mm stocker with a needle that moves out of the way with the slide any day. I can port a stock carb out to within a few tenths of a mm to the SHA. So what is the advantage? Easier tuning for a novice?

A 16/16 is simply too big for a cag. Period.

Re: Whats better big jet or small?

I ported my stock carb all the way through to a little over 14mm (9/16), and my stock slide works great. And i also tapered the choke side of the carb with a tapered bit as big as it could be tapered (maybe like 15mm-17mm).

none taken you bring up some good points.
i have an extra stock carb laying around ill port it to 14mm and record the results vs the dell rep, maybe then we will know which is truly better.

Right on 2bamp!!!!!.We competed for 3 years. If these guys are running on a track where there is on and off throttle to mid throttle to wot. Then they would get the idea.
