Thumbs up Cheap/Good C1 clutch fix

OK, to everyone out there that wants a good clutch but hates coughing up the $200 for a Zocchi clutch kit this will work. Replace your stock clutch drum with a zocchi 79mm standard clutch drum($30-$40) you will have to machine 1mm off the nut that holds the clutch to the crank because the zocchi drum is a little thicker and the nut hits the clutch drum, once you have your clutch all assembled just make sure your wheel spins free without engaging the crank. This works good and will save you the ($150-$165) cost of the zocchi clutch assembly. I reccomend ordering the bearing kit also but you do not have to, just becareful when removing your old one. I put a zocchi 3 stock carbonium with a 80mm drum in my bike($205) and it worked great so today I wanted to see how the stock clutch would do with the zocchi drum, it worked good with the 80mm but better with the 79mm. If anyone out there has a 78mm you might want to try it. It will never be as good as the zocchi 3 shoe but for the price it is a great upgrade to just use the new drum.

Thanks for the info. I have a Blata drum on order and some Blata shoes - so I'll post back here when I have tried them out.

James.

I wondered if just a drum upgrade would help. I got the Polini clutch kit from DC and the Zocchi drum is sooooooooo much better than the stocker. The metal thickness and finish quality is A++.

I finally got mine back together and need to get some seat time.

Very soon, we will have clutches for the C1 Cagami that will not require any changes. Just install and go.
Your right with the zocchi clutch there is no modification required but if the stock clutch is used with the zocchi drum the nut will hit if it is not shaved down. My clutch kit from dcminimoto was $205 but I went with the 60gr. ergal and carbonium 3 shoe kit. It works great and I have tons of laps on the zocchi kit but if you do not want to spend the extra $ the drum fix works well.
