dellorto replica really bad??

is the dellorto rep carbs really that bad? concidering it cost only 1/3 of the original dellorto.

If it is really that impossible to tune.. why do people still use them?

Is it even possible to use?
Some posts in the forum says that it is almost impossible to get the bike to work with it, and other says it works fine..!?

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

its china parts some are good some are bad and you take your chances with one of those . if you just keep your eyes open there are guys that let the real dels go for $60 on occasion and i have picked them up as cheap as $50 shipped off of ebay

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

You could be lucky and not need to adjust anything but that's highly unlikely. The fakes have adjustment but its crude and you can only buy jets in certain sizes (very limited).

Dellorto's are more money but at least you'll be able to tune it perfectly. Why risk engine damage using some piece of dung when you can have the best for only a little more.

Listen to what people have to say if you want to avoid a headache. There's probably hundreds of threads on this and everybody always says stay away from them, including me.

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

I know the real dell would be better.. ofcourse.
but my point is.. is the rep usable at all?

and for the jets, some people in this forum said the real dell jets wil fit

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

Its usable if you get a good one and I have seen a few but to be honest with you you would be better off saving your money and spend a little more on a uded Del 19 or 14/14 which ever your using . and any jet will fit if you force it . the one we tried the threads were tight but yes they went in I wouldnt say you can screw them in with your fingers but they will fit . Do yourslef the favor and just buy a used del carb . Think about it like this if you get a turd and have to buy another one you could have bought a used del and not had the headaches of trying to tune it JMHO

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

I was running the rep, but I prefered to just switch to the real thing. Its up in the for sale section now, with a throttle, cable, filter, and manifold

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

if I buy a used I will not know if it has the setup I need.
For the complete setup that is recomended here in forum, there is a fortue in new parts like jets , slider, needles and so on...

Thats why you buy a used one, then you buy the jets you need.

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

quick throttle and new malossi filter I already have , so I probably end up buying a new carb with the right setup installed(about 115 $ I found)

Take a look at this one: 20MMMIKUNI

What do you think about this?
I know it is not common to use Mikuni, but does it have to be common for it to work well?

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

Phbg has long been proven as the best carb for this application. Others have been tried

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

Personally a real Dellorto PHVA 17.5 would be much better for your bike IMHO and if you look on ebay type in PHVA in all countries you will find many many of them if you can get a person to ship to the US they are many as there mostly used on euro scooters . and cheap !!!!!
I wouldnt mess with that POS mikuni let alone buy it from PBU thats the first mistake ..

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

well has anyone even tried using that 20mm mikuni? its not a bad carb i can guarentee that for one you can find every jet to tune it and its 1mm bigger then a phbg but with less adjustment then the 21mm dell so why would it be bad? the only bad part is getting it from pbu.

im also using the dell rep 19mm and i have the real dell 19mm phbg but i prefer the dell rep over the real one lol for one the rep is already set up to run for a pocketbike where the real dells are usually set up for mopeds. and real dell phbg main jets fit the rep dont know about the other jets cuz i had a carmel plug on idle, half and wot so no need to change.

i will say this though! it will not run outta the box! theres a few things that are wrong with the dell rep 19mm and without fixing them it'll never run. as far as the sha reps those are the ones i would say stay away from just cuz they have leaky bowls and they load up on fuel if you're not on it and going leaner on the jetting to compensate makes it run lean up top. personally i wouldnt mind giving a real sha 16/16 a try thats for a cag of coarse.

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

Buying rep parts is a game of russian roulette. some work some dont some work for a while... the adjustments are so leaky and crap in the replica i had i ended up giving it away.

you will also find internally the reps are different then the genuines as well.

ive seen a 24mm mikuni used on a huge TMF engine with a cr80 reedblock that goes fine. using a 20mm mikuni on a normal motor means youll have to find your own manifold to fit it perfectly.

i guess it would work. but then again i KNOW a phgb works.

the carb tuning is so easy so dont even worry if you do need to tune em up (which you will but they do run just fine out of the box)

So what did you need to fix on the rep carb to make it good?

Re: dellorto replica really bad??

they over charge some times, and a few of the parts they sell aren't that great, but I for one LOVE my 15:1 dome and flat top piston...

I don't dislike PBU at all, they are a fine place to buy parts from, not the cheapest but my parts got to me in san diego REALLY quick..
