More Traction

Has anyone here ever managed to get a set of PMT tyres to wear out evenly? As in a respectable sized contact patch wears out all at once and not just the edge?

Conventional wisdom has it that you should be getting the biggest contact patch at full lean. Creating , for want of a better word, a kind of half hexagon shape as the tyre wears.

So how come PMT's always wear out that last little bit on the edge near the sidewall before the wear indicators are even down to half way? maybe I'm just too fat (i don't think so i'm about 85kg in my gear) Any one else noticing this?

Re: More Traction

improper inflation is the cause of that . I think the new compounds dont do it as bad as the old tire design there seems to be a little more radius on the new tires compared to the older ones

Re: More Traction

Yeah, I'm thinkin it's the shape and construction. I've been trying more pressure to try to get it to hold its shape and I'm up to 20psi on the rear now, considering trying more but don't want to lose any more 'suspension'. At the front i only run 15psi coz it just make the bike feel right.
They must have guys that test em to the limit and beyond but they'd all be lighter than me huh?
Any one else? what pressure's do you run and why?

Re: More Traction

Once you overfill the tire and pop the nylon and polyester fibers the tire will only get worse.....How old are the tires and when do you figure they were manufactured[year]?...If they sat on a shelf for a few years without being sealed in plastic bags with preservative on them they may be dried out and failing... All rubber and plastic must be produced with high levels of discintigrant agents that allow the rubber and plastic to breakdown under sunlight.Florescent lights can do it too on a slower pace..It could also be a manufacturing defect with the nylon and polyester fibers that belt the tire to hold its shape........Ever heard of the term "factory seconds"....Thats the tires that arent as high of the quality the company expects to get full price for honestly...They sell the factory seconds to discount places like K-Marts and Dollar store outlets to sell for unbeleivable prices ;- they sell faster than their perfect counterparts , flood the market and end up in stout supply in garages across the world sitting on shelves waiting for the day to be used...They never do and they get sold off cheaply at garage sales and craigslist....Unfortunately you get what you pay for....Peace

Re: More Traction

So no one has noticed this problem? I've never seen a pmt rear that looks like it has worn correctly. Not just talking about my bike. (Unless all pmt's in australia are seconds). Running 15/18 psi, I find they're the most forgiving, consistent and just plain fast tyre around. Its just that judging from the wear pattern I see everyone getting, there's more performance to be had. Does anyone here even run PMT's? or should I ask in the euro section?
