| Re: phbg 19 DS or phbg 19BS? bikemad yank help!! I've pm'd you Jenky. But for everyone out there who may have been told the same thing as Jenky, I'll elaborate.
The Dellorto PHBG19-DS is an extremely versatile carb. It is adaptable to a great many engines and Dellorto has included in its design a little brass spigot on the side for engines that have external oil metering, and a little brass spigot on top for vacuum metering. Good news for Aprilia RS50 owners, etc., with big bore kits. However, they have also included in the kit a rubber bung to block up the spigot for people, like us, that want to put them on engines without oilers. The presence of the extra bits have nothing to do with the internal architecture of the carb, they only make them more adaptable to a greater cross-section of engines. Sort of like when you buy a one-size-fits-all Holley carb for a car engine. Whatever you don't need, you block off. Only this time not with golf tees and spent shotgun shells. So, I'm sure the guy behind the counter at Earl's Bike-o-Bits thinks he's giving good advice, but don't be swayed by his retoric. Truth be known, you've probably forgotten more than he knows about two-strokes. Buy the DS and you'll happily be changing jets without losing your screws and adjusting your needle without tearing your gaskets. |
