Question using gasket sealant or not on C2 replica?

I`m ready to reassemble the engine on a C2 replica and I have questions for experienced engine builders.

I have a BZM gasket kit and a Blata gasket kit. The BZM kit has metal (aluminum) cylinder gaskets while the Blata kit has paper cylinder gasket. Is one better than the other?

I was wondering do I use gasket sealant (Yamabond)with the gasket on the 2 case halves or just the gasket itself?

What about the cylinder, squish gasket only or gasket with sealant?

Any help/tips would be appreciated.

thanks

on the case gasket if you use any gasket maker (yamabond or whatever) put very very little except around the water pump in this area give it a little extra as that area is prone to leaking..

now on to the base gasket (under the cylinder) yes use yamabond, not too much but pay close attention around the water jacket (where the water pumps through) because again this area is extremely prone to leaking..

as for which gasket kit to use, i have not heard of anyone using a bzm kit on a blata, im not saying anything is wrong with it but i have not had experience with it, based on that I would go with the blata gasket kit, but you will have to decide which one to use...

And you know what else helps, is if you soak the gasket to be put on in the oil that you will be use'n. Let it stay well lubed for at least a few hours before you apply it, just lay it on a piece of sheet metal, cardboard or anything and dab the oil on. (both sides) And use the Yamabond too, apply to the cases. Why? Is because it makes a better seal, taking the surface shape, and it tightens as you heat up the motor a couple of times. And as always , check the torque on all the nuts and bolts after several good rides just to be sure.

NO bond stuff on the head gasket.

Eh, nickj.

Re: using gasket sealant or not on C2 replica?

actually the chinese tolerances are off by far! i use hondabond4 for case and base gaskets on my cag and banshee and it provides more compression and everything fits a lot better. theres no need to sqeeze the head studs to slide the cylinder on like you have to do if using case gaskets.

the real case gaskets are made for the euro motors not the chinese not saying you cant use them its just better if you dont. and even some of the euro cases dont need gaskets just sealant ask standard he'll tell you.

Thanks guys for your advice.I`ve gone through ALL the posts going back to 2005 and can see that some of you are experts on the Oragami replica.I am going to have to get my own bike instead of helping my friend as I stripped his bike TOTALLY apart and am now rebuilding.
I`ll have some more posts, asking advice if thats ok.

again this is where the blata reps shine, everyone i know and all the b1r's i work on all have the blata gaskets, they fit perfect and do not create ANY issues like you are describing.. at least so far

ask as many questions as you can think of, it's the only way to learn...

Re: using gasket sealant or not on C2 replica?

Thanks NickJ,you have a wealth of knowledge and experience.More questions will be coming on Thursday!
How about this one for now,I replaced his crank bearings with 6203 P5 ones.I froze the bearings/warmed the cases and used a press on the exterior of the bearing to drive it in.Is this the right way?(I`m using my experience on other engines on these little ones)

Re: using gasket sealant or not on C2 replica?

as long as no damage was done to the bearing i wouldn't be worried, but when using the press (this is more for other people as it sounds like you already know this) only press on the OUTER most ring, never from the small inner ring...

on a side note, how hard did you have to press? it really shouldn't be hard at all, getting the china ones out for the first time is normally hard but on our bikes the new bearings all but drop in...

yet another side note i just cant keep quiet about, I am about to rebuild my main motor, which bearings for the crank you might ask, while going through an OLD tool box i found two Delco Z99593 old (80's) bearings, they have a rubber seal and still have tons of good looking grease under the seal, so out comes the seal, a little bath for the bearings and now i have a part ACDelco C1....

oh well maybe it's just me, but it had me laughing for a little while.. We'll see how it works.

Re: using gasket sealant or not on C2 replica?

you should have three base gaskets with the BZM kit a gold , silver and paper green the two metal ones are for setting the squish on the head. they all will work fine. but make sure once you put the case together you cut the excess gasket were it sticks up at the base gasket area. or it will leak water at the front of the engine.
