Just got my Zocchi pipe back from Atomic Plating. I could have had them grind off the welds and have it completely smooth but I like it better this way.
With the engine I've started sanding the barrel, top, clutch housing and flywheel cover. It should be ready for polishing in a few days so it's a little rough at this stage.
OOOOOOHhhhhhhh...Its about time!!!!!!!!!! Friggin Shweeet! Now I want mine done! LOL I still have not fired my bike up after installing the Zocchi pipe...double checking my work.
torque make sure there is no one air leak in your exhuast. expect a big increase in low end and midrange.
MANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN I WISH MY PIPES LOOKED HALF THAT GOOD. You better hope it doesnt discolor when your start it up, lol...nice work, i might polish my engine?
Well, exhaust port has a new seal, and the springs that hold everything together....dayum! They were a good wrestle to get on, so i dont know how else there could be a leak...

Yeah, I had to heat my springs a bit so I could get mine on. I don't have the exhaust spring tool, I like doing stuff the hard way with pliars grunting and growning swearing and cursing for hours instead .... Zocchi exhaust springs do have some serious tension.

Thats no joke...I didnt heat mine, but I did use an automotive brake spoon tool that you re-install brake springs with...still a little grunting because of the angle of attack. At least the spring strength gives us some insurance....Its friggin Never gonna fall apart!
YOU ARE THE KING OF BLING!Looks good, Jason. You'll be able to check that your hair still looks good when you take your helmet off! Did that item arrive yet?

The item came today, Canada Post got confused with the delivery address on the package. Thanks mate, I'll drop you a pm when I install it tonight.
LOL, speaking of fetish Jason, my boys were actually waiting on a poster of your avatar....the crazys! I had to break the news.
The pipe is pimped! I got a question concerning mine for the knowledged to answer. Would it be bad to have it powedercoated? Would it cause abnormal cooling or heat containing issues? I was told my header wrap would not let the exhaust cool in time for the return pulse to be effective.....blah blah....anyone think this would be a concern eh?

I was going to powder coat mine before I decided to chrome it. I can't see chrome or powder coated header harming the motor.
With 2 strokes I would stay away from header wrap and ceramic coatings where heat can not dissipate, your buddy is right.
When are you posting pictures of your polished frame?
i ran a heat wrapp on my GEM for a bit. I actually liked it, it made my powerband 500-1000rpms earlier and was good for short windy tracks. When it was cold the pipe would steam, no other bike did that but mine. I got scared at times
...going to be honest, If I had a pic of the frame alone, Im not sure if I would post it. If I compared it to the one in the avatar, its not much more shiney, but it is smoother. Not a good way to spend $78...mostly due to the coating chemical. Overall, Im not impressed with the job...I should eat my shoe now.
I cant wait until Im finished with the whole bike actually. Im way ahead of schedule anyways, I thought it was going to take until....March or something for everything I wanted.
Ive been spending more time on both my boys' bikes. They have lightly moded Cags...dealing with thier imagination is getting to me too! They have this "Graphix" schemes in thier heads with all the superbike racing stickers and stuff plastered... ...and for the next 3 days Im spending quality time with a big block Chevy engine and its supercharger applications...gotta fit it up with all the goodies and then tear it down again for blueprinting and crap...whew, Im bushed...
Ill work on pics as soon as we get back up to the paint shop again. Im taking the bike up to put it all together at their facility. They have my fairing bolts too, which have been anodized with...I think they said "iridiscent" yellow or something like that. Those dudes know how to make you spend money. ....lesson learned! LOL! But they do unquestionable work, guaranteed!
I suppose Ive talked enough...someone else's turn....
When we checked power on kart engines on the dyno, the best power came from a scotch-brited plain steel pipe. Heat wrap cost us 2hp up top but as has been mentioned low end power was brought on a couple hundred rpm. We also noticed an increase in ring wear on the wrapped pipe runs. We didn't have a chromed pipe to test but it must be said, it is a thermal barrier and will hold heat in the pipe. Even on black painted pipes we noticed the power wasn't as sharp but the results weren't as obvious as with the heat wrap.
You can bet the chromed pipe would be noticed on the dyno readings. Some friends chromed their street scooter´s race pipes for the bling factor, and one can feel the different power delivery. As you said, they act shorter. Not what one would tune for on a vario engine, as one wants is high revs power.
some drag racers ceramic coat their pipes to help the pipe get to its working temperature during their short races, otherwise pipe is too cool to work as it was designed to do.
Engines are meant to be running in a temp range. If we wrap/chrome/thermal barrier the pipe, exhaust gas temperature rises, thats why pipe´s power delivery changes. As exh gas temp rises, combustion chamber´s temp rises, piston and cylinder´s temp rises and they expand, shortening rings life, cylinder´s bore gets distorted, crank and rod work harder..
