Adding an extra battery to stock razor

hi,
i just picked up a razor scooter the other day without a charger and what i think is a dead battery. I was wondering if it would be safe to add a third or 4th battery to the stock setup. my goal for right now is to increase the riding time. If adding a third or fourth battery does increase the ride time, would the ride length increase alot? also would i need to modify the wiring to the controller?

Thanks,
Andrew

Re: Adding an extra battery to stock razor

you can't just add an extra battery, you must also upgrade the controller.if you just want too increase your riding time you can just buy another battery with more mah with same volt's.this way you can still keep the stock controller.what kind of battery is on the bike now and how many watt's is your motor?

Re: Adding an extra battery to stock razor

not sure on the specs of the bike because i didnt get a manual or anything. since i already have 4 batteries and i found out how to fit all four of them nicely, could i just wire the batteries in series parallel which would result in 24v? would thise double the mAH? what i am still stumped about is how to connect the four batteries to the controller. would having more batteries increase the charging time? if so, what can i buy to decrease the charging time.

Thanks,
Andrew

ive added a third battery for mine and it works but you gotta have a 36 V Charger Anymore batteries will blow Something.......... BTW i Hit 25.4 MPH Today With 3 Battieries And A Stock Controller oh yeah and for some reason when you charge the batteries the third on makes a sizling Does That Mean I need A Razor Mx-500 Controller ? Or What ?

Re: Adding an extra battery to stock razor

there are two version's of the bike, one is a razor 24v and a honda minimoto which is 18v.let's say you have 2 12v 7ah batteries now connect the wire's(+)positive to (-)negative,this will increase the volts too 24v 7ah.if you connect the (+)positive too (+)positive and (-) too (-) it will increase the mah too 12v 14ah.
the controller only needs one postive and one negative wire from the batteries.
what kind of batteries do you have?

Re: Adding an extra battery to stock razor

so your using the stock 24v controller with a 36v system.i tried upgrading my son's bike from 18v too 24v and it did'nt work.just keep a close eye on your controller if you are.
using a volt meter check all 3 batt's when fullycharged.check one battery at a time too see what volt's they have.would be best if all 3 batts show near the same volt's.

Re: Adding an extra battery to stock razor

so is it safe to wire four batteries in series parallel resulting in 24v 14AH? i purchased the batteries from frys. where do you guys mount your batteries? my third battery is mounted under the rear fender and the fourth is mounted where a gas tank would normally go. the 4th battery lifted the cover alittle so i had to put two spacers in the midle. i think i may be able to squeeze another battery where the two stock batteries are.

Andrew
pinoy, no that is not correct...if you wire 4 batteries in series you will end up with 48volt...... what you need to do is this... fisrt 2 batteries wire up in series, then put it aside..... the wire up the other 2 batteries in series...... now wire both sets in series..now you wil have a longer riding time with the same speed you had before,,,,,,

Re: Adding an extra battery to stock razor

i was saying wiring the battery in series-parallel (Shown in picture) doing this would end up with 24volts but having 14aH because:

Wiring in Series will incease the voltage.
And
Wiring in Parallel will incease aH but not the voltage.

My batteries are rated 12v 7aH. Wiring in series/parallel will result in 24v 14ah. would 24v 7aH still be safe for the stock motor and controller? one other question i have is; is it safe to wire differt aH batteries together? for example two 12v 12aH batteries and 2 12v 7aH batteries? Where can i find a faster charger?

Here is a pic of a series/parallel wiring diagram

Thanks,
Andrew

Re: Adding an extra battery to stock razor

decided to go ahead and give it a try, so i wired them all up in series/parallel and hooked up the dmm to the plug. read ~24v. now to order a new charger. im assuming since i have two more batteries, it will take much much longer to charge. any suggestions on what kind of charger i should get? should i just get one off of ebay?

Thanks,
Andrew

Re: Adding an extra battery to stock razor

you should get a speedo to see the difference between your stock controller and the mx500.
