I bought a new spark plug changed the oil and nothing.. i tried to check for a spark but idk if i did it right because i got no spark but when i go to start it with the electric start it sounds like its about to start and when i give it gas it sounds like its reving a little bit but wont start... Re: X19 wont start! Helpp!!

Go to where your coil is mounted on the bike and make sure both wires are connected to where they are supposed to be on the coil.

It could also be a carburetor problem, but it sounds electrical try it tomorrow and see if it fires up.

To test spark, take out the spark plug, clean it off as best as possible, and then take your spark plug wire and put the spark plug in it. Then ground the plug and wire to a part of the head of the engine that is not painted (a bolt will work if its not rusted). Then crank the engine and see if a blue spark passes the gap of the spark plug.

Also another easy way to figure out is to pour just a tad of gas into the spark plug hole and then reconnect the spark plug and wire and crank it and see if it fires a few times. If not you have an electrical problem you need to troubleshoot.

See if all your connectors and wires are all connected and nothing is just hanging out.

Re: X19 wont start! Helpp!!

Alright, it could be an electrical problem. But first before we go any further in diagnosing this, put just a slight bit of gasoline into the spark plug hole and put the plug back in and the wire back on and fire it up. If it still does not start you have an electrical problem.

Is there another connector that is also just laying out? I am guessing that goes to the rear or front lights but since you do not have those anymore it is not necessary to plug that into anything.

Also the little black oval thing with the green wire mounted to it, is the coil. Is the green wire actually attached? In the video it looks like it is ripped or something? If you don't know take a pic of the wire and I'll tell you if its fine or not.

Ok I did another video I figured that's easier to see it but I didn't try putting gas in the spark hole yet because I'm not getting a spark at all so I feel it wouldn't do me any good but the video shows the green wire and everything clear so let me know what you think after looking at the video.. I really wanna get this thing started it worked fine the other day and I didn't touch any of the wiring or anything I changed oil and got a new spark plug that's it.

Re: X19 wont start! Helpp!!

I am not a hundred percent sure what that plug is for, but it is possible your CDI is unhooked. Do you see a little black box that looks like this? http://www.scooterpart.net/products.php?id=529 and is it plugged in?

Your coil wires look good, your starter solenoid is fine (which is the other black object you were looking at in the picture that had 4 wires connected to it.)

Otherwise I would really recommend putting in a little bit of gas in the spark plug hole and see what happens, sometimes it's just a surprise.

Also is your spark plug clean and gapped at 0.025" +- some?

Make sure everything has a good ground to the frame, even the battery, No ground, No work. You could have a bad coil or CDI also.

Pull the coil wire off the plug hang on to it touch the head with your finger hit the starter and let us know what happens.

Most likely its a carb problem. spray starter fluid in the carb and hit the key see if it turns over.

Don't do this or your in for a wild ride. If your going to test the coil use some really insulated plyers!

Re: X19 wont start! Helpp!!

Do an ohms test on the stator to make sure its generating proper power........

In your vid the plug with 5 wires is for your gear shift selector....If you have a full auto bike it wont be hooked up as the full auto bikes are 1 speed..........

The turn light buzzer was most likely removed to kill the annoying beep which results in inoperable blinkers.......buy a 2 prong 12volt regular duty 80's Gm car flasher and hook the two wires to the two prongs..that will get the blinkers working.............

the round thing is the starter solenoid...its a high current relay to bump the starter.................

Re: X19 wont start! Helpp!!

Ok I tried putting gas in the spark plug hole and starting it up and nothing still just sounds like it's gonna start but not starting... what parts could be bad that I'm not getting a spark? I don't wanna buy all new stuff just to find out it's not the reason the bike won't start..

Also how do I do an ohms test?? (stupid question I know)

Re: X19 wont start! Helpp!!

Please specify what you mean by "It sounds like it is going to start." Do you mean it fires once or twice? If it is firing once or twice your spark is fine, you need to do some carburetor work which we can lead you through.

To do an OHMs testing you will do exactly as Cam's picture says to do. Basically go to the side of your bike and you will see a half inch black wire coming out of your drivetrain. Follow that up to the little plastic connector, where it connects with the next set of wires. Then you will do exactly as the picture says and connect the red terminal (positive) of your voltimeter to the red and black wire of the plastic connector. Then you will put the black terminal (negative) of your voltimeter on the green wire or black wire that is not part of the plastic connector but is still coming out of the 1/2" wire.

If you look at the picture the arm of the voltimeter is set diagonal, set it exactly like that and it will read ohms, (unless your voltimeter does not look like that, but most basic ones do.)

Parts that effect spark: Stator (Alternator), CDI (Black box, holds a charge of a couple hundred volts), Coil (Oval looking thing with green wire attached, and heavy duty wire coming out of it that leads to the spark plug, and then the spark plug itself which needs to be gapped properly and very clean.

Then you are not getting spark. Did you try the ohms test yet?
