Electric X7

Well, my new X7 came in on Friday and didn't waste anytime ripping through it. Got the engine, trans, tank and exhaust removed as well as some brackets that I didn't need. New motor and controller have been ordered and should be here within a week. With the new gears, I'm calculating a top speed of around 55mph. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

Here's a pic of the frame.

Thumbs up

Aaah! Okay, initial shock is over.

That's actually a **** good pic of the X7 frame, naked! (Yay! Bike pr0n!)

I've been thinking of getting a second X7 and doing this. Wasn't sure what motor I would need to use though. I imagine this thing'll sound like a beefy RC car... That cool sorta jet-engine whine. Decided on a paint scheme yet? Might make it look like a high-tech military fighter.

Sevo,

Just a little advice, I think gearing it for 50mph+ will drain your batteries too fast unless youre just dragging 1/4 miles. But if you plan on racing twisty knee dragging tracks I've found that a 40mph top end is enough. You'll get awesome torque and a more efficient setup so you can finish the race. So how's the conversion coming along and where do you plan on racing it?

maytag- what does your 48 volt rig weigh?(enitire bike) and how many HP is the motor rated at?

I have a clark (the forklift company) EVT-5 box with dual fets that was used in a 4000lb to 5000lb rider pattet jack, it can be set up for 24 or 36 volts and control very high torqure motors in the 1 1/2 to 8 HP area. it is about 9"x8"x3" in size.

I was thinking of using it for a electric go cart for my kids, but a electric bike just might be the ticket;-)

Nice work on your project

Well at long last, the bike is done!!! (Actually stayed up last night and got the bike finished and on the road around 4:00 AM...)

Right now it is geared for 54 MPH and is running just under that. I haven't done any range testing, mostly short runs and charge - trying get all the batteries at the same level. As of this afternoon, the 4 batteries after sitting after a run, were 12.03, 12.03, 12.03 and 12.00, so we're set. They are on a full charge right now topping off.

I will be weighing the bike tomorrow and will let everyone know how much it weighs. The bike is super fast and VERY torque-y. I had it geared for a lower speed, but it simply had too much torque with the SRE controller we have. I am also setting the controller back this eve to limit it some more.

We also have the dc-dc setup so all the lights, horns, signal, etc work.

So far, the only thing that is going to need attention soon is the brakes. I'm gonna have to replace them with some aftermarket brakes.

I'll keep everyone posted on the performance.

See ya!

Great. I was a little surprised how well it rides. I was concerned about weight, but the bike is very well balanced, even in the turns. We stiffened up the rear suspension to help with the extra weight a bit. At over 50MPH it still rides smooth, no vibrations at all. I hope to take it through a course here soon to really test the handling.

See ya,

Duuuude. That's freakin sweet. I've decided that my next project bike will not be a 4t, but rather an electric. I can only imagine what the PCM must sound like on that thing...

Gonna post some video? (Hopefully with sound so we can hear the thing screaming)

Ah, another convert. Love it! The only thing you hear is the chain noise on it. I'll work on getting some vid, may take a bit, but I'll work on it.
