Won't start

So with my ongoing problem with my polini air cooled I thought I'd turn back to my trusted liquid cooled pasini. I haven't started it in maybe 5 weeks whilst I've been trying to get the rsr working. A couple of pulls and it starts right up and all is good. Then I notice the water pump has a leak so the following day I replace the seal and put it all back together. However now it won't start! I've never had a problem starting this bike, on the odd occasion it does fire up momentarily, the minute I open the throttle it immediately dies. Any ideas?...

Buy a new sparkplug if no good still replace the coil and depending on age possibly the flywheel too..

There's a possibility you need to clean or rejet the carb too...

What's the compression ratio?!?That will tell if reeds and cylinder are still good....Those engines run like crap under 13:1 compression

Best thing to do is start by reading the spark plug...post a pic of it and don't wipe it down...

Good Luck

It's not the sparkplug, I have tried a spare which I know is definitely good and still no luck. I have also tried a different carb and still no luck. Havent thought about the coil so il give that a go next. Thanks!

Oh one thing I forgot to mention and it's a little difficult to describe but whilst trying to pull start it repeatedly a couple of times I heard a puff of air escape suddenly?? I presume from the exhaust? Is it more likely to be a piston/ring problem?

Check your compression too especially if the sparkplug came out blackish mixed with white or grey...

I had an engine that had a bad headgasket and wouldn't use water but wouldn't hold proper compression either..It would blow the compression into the waterjackets makng the water yucky looking....

When the compression gets weak the engine loses its ability to efficiently burn the fuel so it will mimic a bad coil so check your reeds too...........

Good Luck nailing it down......

A coil is $90, remove your plug put the wire back on ground the plug nut to ground, have someone pull for you to see if you get a nice blue spark. Put metal screwdriver to your flywheel magnets should be hard to pull it off, before you start buying stuff.

Make sure the plug is good, and the wire and cap are good also. A fouled plug may not fire. Most coils the wire unscrews.
