So I just picked up this used Electra chopper and it was missing the pull string. I looked on line and picked one up. I am really having a tuff time putting it on. I am thinking that it’s not the correct one. Can anyone tell from the pics if I bought the wrong one or if there’s a special way to put it on? Thanks for the help.

Heres a thread explaining how....
https://www.pocketbikeplanet.com/170...learn-how.html

In any event ...If you have the rectangular box shaped pawl with spring loaded flick lever you must pull the pullrope while trying to push it on flat to get the spring loaded lever to flick to the side and allow the pullstarter to mount in-place..........

Good Luck....................

The better option would be to get the round type GSMoon pawl too then install it or you can get the right pullstarter where the center looks kinda like a bowtie...........

Re: Pull string

I would buy the round steel pawl since you have the part for it, its much better than the rectangle, especially if you pump up the engine. You are suppose to have a thin alum shim between the case and the starter housing where it mount. Seen them on eBay. I also buy the the metal cover, on my scooter engines cause it hits the ground first.

Thanks guys for the help. I messed with this for hours trying to get it to work. I’m trying not to put a lot of $$ into it because I haven’t even got it running yet so I’m not sure what it will need. I’m going to get the round pawl and see how that works. What is the thin metal shim look like that you mentioned, and is it necessary for the pull to work properly?

Your bike has an e-starter,,,try jumping that to get the engine to run...

Ground goes to engine block and positive lead attaches to the tab on the side of the starter,,

When you use the GsMoon pawl and pull the shim isnt as pertinent to the pullstarters operation as it is with the rectangular pawl and other type pullstart as the center of the GsMoon pull pops out to meet the pawl....

If you had the cateye or x7 engine with other style e-starter the shim would be pertinent with the GsMoon pull and pawl....

With the other rectangular type theres always contact between the two but the shim also helps keep out water and debris too...Ö........

Thanks Cam, I believe I’ve started a big mess. When I bought the bike someone had clipped all the wires to the lights, turn signals and speedometer. The kill switch was not attached either. I will have to buy a new one since it’s missing. I am not an electrician so I have no idea what I am doing. What’s the easiest way to install one just to get the bike running. I don’t need any bling on it. I’m attaching some picks the first I’m assuming is the wires to connect a new kill switch, the other round black thing I’m guessing is the coil. Does that have to be wired to anything? And the silver looking box, I have no idea what it’s for.

No the whole engine is the ground............

What you have pictured is the power feed tab ..........

Take a jumper cable..Clamp the negative clamp to the engine case....

Touch the tab pictured with the positive clamp....The starter should crank if its good............

Does your bike have the e-starter button on the throttle housing?..If so connect the coil wires coming from the engine case direct to the two wires from the starter pushbutton,,,You have a killswitch now ÖÖ.The coil killswitch wires are the solid red and the solid green wires in picture#1 of the pics you posted coming from the orange engine fancase cover....

Or you can follow this easy to do wire harness for the starter/charging system that's simplified.....Youll need to buy a 4 wire keyswitch or two 2 pole toggle switches if you do...

The illustration schematic only shows the starter/charging system side....The coil and killswitch are separated ...Only thing they share is the keyswitch but on two different wires..

There is no e-switch that came with the bike. I don’t plan on having the battery installed, or am I going to need it?

So the yellow or orange colored button isn't on the throttle anymore...not a problem.....

If you don't want to run any other wiring other than a kills witch that's do-able too.

These engines operate just like a weedeater. ..the E start is a novelty

Awesome, thanks a lot for you help Cam. So the black coil and silver little box thing in pics 3 and 4 do not need to be wired to anything?

Not for the engine to run......just for the E start and charging system....if you're gonna go the stripped route I suggest gutting the estate or it will generate power with nowhere to go ultimately burning it up and in cases erupting into flames. ...

Good luck and you're welcome

Bursting into flames would not be good. One last question and I’ll leave you alone. Could you recommend a switch that would easily be installed and hooked up to the ends of the wires I have on the pic?

Any non illuminated 2 pole toggle switch from the local autoparts store will work....pushbutton style too ....even a regular household lightswitch will work....

Good luck

Re: Pull string

For $5 online you can buy a kill button that mounts to your handlebars and you plug your coil wires into the 2 wires off the button. When you push it down the metal tab hits the handle bars and grounds your coil. If you look at your coil, one of the wires is grounded to the coil frame. The other wire goes to the button and the second wire hooks to the grounded wire.
