Question gearbox oil cateye fs-509

I recently purchased a cateye fs-509 49cc bike. How much gear oil (if any) is supposed to be in the gearbox in front of the clutch. It has a fill plug and drain plug, but when i took it apart to check the clutch it didn't have any in it. Just bearings and gears. thanks in advance.

It needs very little lube....Any more lube than just enough to touch the lowest gear and sling it around is too much and will seep into the clutchbell area.......

I like to run some Brasso and tranny fluid through it for a good 10-15 minutes to polish the gears then I clean out the gearbox and change the clutchbell bearing with a Higher quality which is a 6202-2RS size 35mm x 15mm x 11mm and remove the rubber seal from the side that sees the gear oil... ...

Most like SKF brand.I like SKF also Timken brand especially the deep groove radial ball bearing ABEC design bearings....

After you do the mod and refill with quality lube like Dexron Mercon Trans fluid or Lucas transmission treatment the trans will operate a lot smoother with lesser friction....

Good Luck

Ok thanks. That is what I was thinking. I saw a youtube video and the guy was talking about filling it up. I sold Torrington/Fafnir bearings (which Timken bought them out) for 23 years so I'm a little familiar with brgs. I just wanted an expert opinion before I kept running it dry.I am new and definately a novice on pocket bikes. Thanks again!

Garage
You definitely need to take it apart and clean out all the factory Grease...

Don't trust a lot of stuff you see on youtube a lot of people have just all of a sudden started thinking they're experts...

Only put oil to near the bottom of the lower chain for lubing, anymore and it robs power. I just use 30w car oil about 100 ML.

Yeah, I was thinking of the chain driven box. I have 2 of that type of trans on the twin Cag engines, will probably steal one when I put my new scooter engine in. I storage I have a set of Cateye front forks and rear arms section with the double barrel sprocket I picked up way back, from a member.
