Its worth a try..That stuffs pretty strong......

You don't need to disassemble the spool.....

You spin it until you've given it enough rewing pressure then line up the hole in the spool with the rope slot ,pick out the end of the rope with enough to tie a knot let spool go tie knot then pull rope til knot sits nicely in hole let 550 cord wind up and cut at the right spot totie in the handle and youre golden...

Re: Pit Bike

Well after the second re-spool, the pull starter broke again. (The red one I bought off of amazon that came with the flywheel). So I tried to re-spool a third time and the spiral spring popped out and I got frustrated and through the whole thing away lol.

Now the kiddo is without a dirt bike again. I was thinking about ordering the same pull start assembly again but it never felt smooth when starting the bike like the original 'ez starter' did. Any recommendations on which pull starter to get next, maybe something that will last a little longer. For what it's worth the flywheel that came with the red goofit pull start assembly is still installed on the dirtbike. thanks

Try this one... https://www.amazon.com/Sibaken-Start...s%2C146&sr=8-6

If the pullstarter doesn't engage smoothly and pull descently you may have to seat the flywheel down on the crank a lil more.....

Theres nothing gonna feel like the EZ start other than another EZ start....The EZ start uses the tension the spring produces when the pullrope is pulled...

The pullstarter you have is more direct...

The center throws out in a twisting motion so when you pull those types you must pull the slack out of the rope til the ratchet pawl engages the flywheel then you pull hard..

You don't just yank like you can do with the EZ start...

You have to be more fluid like this vid..........

You only yank the rope about 3/4 of the way plus when tuned right should start-up instantly with-in 2-3 pulls...

Theres a treatment to do on the pullrope too...I pull the rope all the way out and rub the rope with parafin or bees wax....

Oh and keep in mind my engine has quite a bit of extensive mods done to the bone stock 1pc 40mm bore engine so the compression is a lot more pronounced with each pull.......

Good Luck

Re: Pit Bike

My Grandson's mini-quad came with a plastic starter which was a piece of crap if ever I saw one.I duuno how many times I "fixed" it. The primary problem was adult males trying to start it for him and ripping the rope out. Like CAM said, it only needs a short quick pull. Reaching the end of a rope at full velocity is never a good idea ...

Re: Pit Bike

When you start it put the piston at BDC. The old style has no leverage when you increase compression, the polini lever style has a lot more, but they fill spongy when you pull. The stock rope sucks, need chain saw rope, and I make it a little longer so I have that slack you need to make contact before you pull.
