carb question....

so, i have been playing with carbs since i was about 10, but i am having a hard time figuring out tuning these carbs.... i am getting a sputter about 6k rpm, but if you can get past it, i can get all the way to the to end 9-10k....

engine is a clone 110 in a X18... stock carb, no airbox.

might i need to jet up? gonna plug chop it today if i get the chance and see what its wanting, rich or lean....seems odd that its just in that spot...

that range is the needle jet, if it needs to be richer then move the c clip closer to the needle tip, then retest
I solved the issue.....LOL 22mm mikuni is already on its way and my race cam should be here today accirding to the tracking so....should make it more fun....
holy crap....my mikuni showed up today.....this thing is huge...LOL i didnt expect this big of a carb...hopefully it will fit the intake...LOL

oh and BTW its a Mikuni vm22
It will fit. I just put a 22mm Mikuni knock-off on my X18, and it really wakes it up! I also added a new exhaust and racing CDI. You may have an issue finding an air filter to fit, which is why many use the foam air filters, so it doesnt matter if it touches the frame.

And the jetting on mine was pretty close. It really needs to go a bit richer on the main, but just moving the clip to the bottom slot helped alot, YMMV.
are you running stock cam on yours? i am not...LOL i am running a race cam with almost a mm and a half more lift and a good bit more duration from the stock...i may be lean yet with this carb...LOL but i do hope it wakes my bike up... and this one isnt a knockoff...its an actual mikuni...
Its def a good carb I think I'm running a 105 or 110 jet in mine right now I got tired of trying to dial it in and just gonna leave it till leave decide to put my other motor In
Im running stock cam for now. The bike is plenty fast until i get racing leathers and get on the track lol. And the main difference between a real Mikuni and a knock-off is the price. I've owned both and they both perform flawlessly. Where did you get your cam? Can you post a link?

this is the cam i got... http://dratv.com/lisomocambyd.html really opens up the top end, if you have a race cdi iand free flowing exhaust...... i have the blue box cdi, and i will be doing some serious modding to the exhaust tomorrow night, and rear shock overhaul friday, then i will (if its running right) have it at the dragstrip saturday for fun...LOLbunch of my buddies are car nuts, as am i, but my truck went back to stock this spring in anticipation of my engine build this fall, so its sloooowwww right now...LOL
well i cracked opeen the bowl on the carb and it has a 95 jet in it right now, may need to jet it up a bit eventually....LOLshould be close enough for a bit of fun though....
you should get those springs too or its gonna float the valves at high rpm, its happened to me, i could hear it and i got a nice pic of what it did to the piston
Haha i havent heard any float yet.... Just a real rough spot caused by the old carb... Hoping that will go away....LOL
well... tonight was a dissapointment...LOL i went to put the carb on, had nothing but trouble...LOL had to rig up an intake from my go cart which ended up breaking on me 2 mi away from the shop...LOL so i had to push it back... and to top it off, i didnt even gain a single MPH....i did gain a lot of low end tq though...wich makes me think if i get the proper intake, i can gear the heck out of it and pull faster in the lower rpms... still bugs me how slow this thing is...LOL i want a friggin 5 speed....LOL i am half tempted to get a 200cc lifan vertical w/ a 5 spd and call it a day...LOL that would beat my buddies xr110...LOL
Why did you have to rig up an intake? Mine bolted right up to the stock manifold.
oksince the carb was hitting the head on the stock intake, i wonder about this one....would set the carb off to the right of the head essentially.... might work...LOL

thoughts? i did like the tq with the big carb....was a touch rich yet too...

the bottom of the bowl hit the valve adjuster cover...the carb is huge compared to a stocker...LOL

Dang, should've gotten the cheap knock-off, they fit perfectly ;)

But the other thing you might need is an angled/curved throttle cable adaptor for your carb, to make cable routing much easier.

Maybe you could just get away with another spacer between the carb and the manifold? Im not sure if moving the carb forward would help it clear... Maybe a spacer between the head and the manifold?
i thought about a spacer to rise up the carb, but it would need to be a 1/4-1/2".... i am really thinking about that one to put it off the side...that opens up room for the air filter too...theres plenty of room over there...LOL
figured it out....LOL kill 2 birds with the same stone...
