Chain Adjustment.

So as some of you might know, I'm currently doing a mini quad rebuild. I'm having a slight chain issue.. when I put my motor back in with the new BBK and a whole bunch of other good stuff, the chain was loose, but didint come off at all... So I've been riding this new motor for about 4-5 hours + break in, and the chain comes off. So I figure it might be a little loose, and I fabricated a Brass chain roller to give'r a little more tension. This did not really help, it only keeps it from hitting the crossbar supporting the footrest.

So now thinking the chain is too big, I went ahead and removed 1 set of links, and tried to reassemble. No dice, minus that link, the chain is too short to let me put the clutch bell back on.. The chain is 18.5" long minus that one link, so I'm guessing the real size of the stock chain is 19".
any Ideas what I could do to make this fit It minus that one link? or maybe it's because the chain is almost 4 years old? Should I buy more links, and anyone know a good place where they wholesale?

any suggestions

The chain had 118 links stock. I removed 2. now it`s too short.

maybe chain tensioners would help me? because 116 links will not fit.
On the rear you have two eccentric bearings where the bearings both sit offset...loosen the straps and turn the bearing housings...this will loosen and tighten the chain.....remember to cinch them evenly.....

Thanks CAM! this did the trick- I'm also going to run over and punch out a custom chain tensioner out of a small piece of 1/4 inch aluminum sheet, and tack weld it on to the bracket for the chain guard. That and a brand new 118 link 25H chain with master link... Also puting in a new clutch, and just finished installing a Pro Max twin piston rear disc caliper. these rear tires are going to get shredded hahahaha.

Deffinately, with the GoPro Camera and rollbar/handlebar mounts, should make for some interesting footage. I'm almost done with this build, probably going to sliproll some 18Ga 4"x9" galvanized stainless steel pieces of sheet to make some nice gold-ish fenders and leave it at that. No plastic fairings for this build.
I put the chain I had back together but the rivets I took out were done and gave way after a quick ride to the store to get some milk for coffee and a pack of smokes... looks like I'm going to need to buy some chain. I checked out SDscooters and sent them an email... i would rather buy 10 ft of it, cheaper and I'll have more of it in the future.... Fastenal has a box 10ft for 25 bucks...

If anyone has a good place to buy this stuff, let me know.
How many cc's is the quad?
49cc, I found the chain I was looking for from SDScooters, Shout out to the guys working there, great service.... ordering 5 ft of it now.
Nice, post a pic of it wen ur done

Some pics... I`ll take more of it after I'm finished mounting my custom aluminum fenders.

Looks clean and like a project in the making...Id make the frontend truley independent or rigid.........Lots of fun with it...
Nice, is that a twist throttle? And u should put the Canadian flag on it lol
Yeah it's a twist throttle. still havent gotten around to removing the front drums, the two piston disc in the back is plenty of braking.

Alot of the pocketquads come as rear brake only...Having front brakes no matter if their drum brakes ;-is a bonus...When you make that thing bad azz you can use the front brakes as an assist to doing some sick donuts in the dirt.....:D

haha yeah, but it's got alot more oomph to it then when I originally got it, just lean forward and out to the side a little bit and she goes sideways like she was born to drift. alot of fun, when I get a new chain I'm going to make a little video with the Go Pro.

Might be a little off topic, but here is a video I took with my go pro, inside a team O'Neil Rally Preped 279 horespower fiesta that my friend runs..

Weres it at?(the vid)
On my 125cc 4 stroke Quad, I lean to the right to go left and get the inside rear wheel up in the air so you can slide it around the corner, in the dirt.
Having a solid axle and turning is hard, because the inside wheel needs to turn slower than the outside wheel to go around the corner. That's why cars have a rear end w/ spider gears so the axles can turn at different speeds around the corners.
also cars have slip differentials... here is that Rally prep fiesta video. Enjoy!
