Pick up it's not the same it take long to get going
So I was wondering if it make for sense to change the gears
To smaller ones to get more pick up?

Something does not sound right, You made the engine larger (displacement) and it is slower?

Something must be off, But changing the gearing could get some of the low end back, but you will be missing top speed!

For the gearing, larger (more teeth) at the rear sprocket will have faster take off, or at the front pinion less teeth will have faster take off.
