Electric Start Problem

4237 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  CAM2
Hey guys,
So when i try to start my bike using the electric start i hear 1 click noise and then nothing. This was happening earlier but if i just waited a few minutes then tried again i would hear the clicking noise again but then the engine would turn on. I am currently charging the battery but i'm not sure if that's the problem. If you have any ideas please let me know.

Hmm why would it work sometimes but not other times?

Thats the wonder of oxidized contact points............. Washing the bike once sometimes will kill one of those cheap pushbuttons or solenoids...your starter may be gunked up with oxidation too

Dang, what should i do? And btw its not a series of ticking noises, its only 1 ticking noise when i push the starter then no noise at all.

Look into taking the starter pushbutton apart...youll most likely find alot of rust and oxidation,,,,after cleaning give it a whirl...if that dont fix it try jumping the solenoid direct from pole to pole with a screwdriver......if that works replace the solenoid if not remove the starter and clean up the windings and the brushes...............

me personally would ditch it all and simply pullstart it.then tune it so it starts in 3-4 pulls..the weight loss and extra revs are the gravy to the task........Good luck
