I just got a X1 given to me from a coworker and it isn't running but I thought it would be fun to get it going again. So I found you guys :)

I am pretty into mopeds so hopefully these wont be to hard on me!

First newb question though... this bike has the electric start and the bolt that goes through it is snapped off and broke where it screws into... What is it that it screws into? Since that is broken is it a full rebuild now?

Welcome! Thats the pull start Prawl that broke off... Is it deep enough where you can screw a Metric (I think 8mm) Bolt in the center hole? If so, Screw the bolt in the hole and it will push the electric start out.. Then you might be able to get a grip on the broken prawl bolt it or drill it out.. With out that you need the electric start to work..

Good luck man.

My guess is he broke it off trying to use a drill to start it and it snapped off. I did that on a reed port engine. Had to drill down the center of the bolt, starting with a small drill and going bigger till I hit the outer parts of the inner threads. Picked out some metal left and ran a M6 X 1.0 pitch tap down the hole to clean out the rest and got a new M6 bolt.
There are easy outs in my tap set, you can drill a hole and turn it in to the left and if your lucky you can get it to turn.

Doh, That engine was in good shape when that snapped.. My buddy broke his by just pulling on it and it didnt seem like he pulled hard at all... That one is broke good... Your best bet is a steady hand a reverse drill bit... Or take the whole thing apart and get it in a drill press so you can drill it out perfect.. Gonna be fun for sure!

Good luck!

Thats not good.....I would of drilledthrough the screw and used an ez-out to extract it,,,how are you gonna hold the keyway in the slot again?
Oh i see its open to the end..... If he does get the bolt out with an extractor or reverse bit he could still be real careful and just make sure the woodruff key hold in place as he tightens on the starter?! Jb weld it in?? lol I'd find a way!

No just slap the pawl straight to the crankend with a lil jb over the split and in the threads.......itll hold under stock compression...with bumped-up compression youd have to get a new crankshaft or a new engine...

The pic in the post before this one shows the pawl mounted to the crankend only...no special adapters

But no nut to hold it down huh? Just the JB? I dont trust that stuff anymore, everything I have ever tried it on has re broke.. It fills only holes for me now... lol

Maybe its a special non California grade JB where you live.... lol

What size bolt? Bolt for what? U need to get that bolt out or change your prawl and starter like cam is saying...

Oh ya, Cam.. That Prawl u show does use a different pull start ya? Does it just screw into where the elec starter housing screwed??

The pawl cup has a trapper nut in the shorter stud....the pressure of the disk against the crank is all it is on that setup

the same pullstarter can be used you just need the thin aluminum shim aswell as the pullstarter is gonna be oriented differently
