This sites full of great info, and I was hoping someone could point a newb in the right direction. What type of bike is this? Any info and resources would be much appreciated. I got it from a friend and it's been sitting "for a while". I'm planning a little winter build on it and so far all I could tell is that it's an air-cooled, 2-stroke.

Thats an X3........The engine is 49cc and the trans is a CVT....Parts from an X2 will work,,,,,,,Good Luck..

I haven't spent much time working on it yet. The battery is dead so the electric start doesn't work. Will the bike start with just using the pull-starter?

Of course it will.........These bikes are as lowtech as a weedwacker but with frilly extras like the crappy e-starter/wiring..Every 2 stroke bike I have that had an e-starter is now devoid of it aswell as the wiring,switches,battery and e-starter........

I bought a new elect. start 49cc like yours, to mod it and put a boosted306 ported cylinder on it for my scooter. First thing I did was take the whole starter housing off, Tapered the hole on the back side of the paw till is back far enough on the end of the crank to clear the start cover pully. I put blue thread sealer on the taper when I put it back on the engine. The Red Head engines is a cut cylinder,w/ Cag alloy alum head.

Nice looking engine build. I just want to make this thing reliable (lol), and clean it up. I'm not too concerned with going fast as I have a gsxr for that.

To get more horsepower, you really need to take the engine all apart, and do a bunch of mods and polish & lighten some stuff and put it back to gether with a good carb and a boosted intake w/ bottle and a tuned Fatty exhaust.

Heres my bike. But ive done alot of work to mine. I have a mislabeled bike. Almost the same as yours. One thing about these bikes. The forks are weak. Im going buy a set of x7 or x18 forks for mine. You can get a full front end setup for a x7 for $55. But im not sure if the triple tree pole and the triple tree will work of not. But i plan on finding out this winter.

I put an X7 gas front forks on an A2 Cag frame and a water cooled Polini rep engine is going in as well as moving the rear tire back. The tubes are 26mm in Dia. and 19 1/2" long from the axle to the top of the triple clamp.
Think mine was $50 at PB Parts in Florida, online. I got a set of hydraulics front and rear for $50 w/ my discount. Over $99 gets you free shipping.

The cheapo stock forks thats on mine is 26mm. But im not sure about the pole on the lower tripe tree thats goes through the neck.I dont know the length or the width of it to make sure i can use the tripe tree setup as well. The stock tripe tree are cheap as well and very weak.

The only way youre getting an X7 or X18 frontend to work on your X2 or X1 youre looking at some fabricating to do.....The frontends on the X-bike necks have a bicycle type neck bearings and the X-7 / X-18 necks use bolts and wheel bearings..

Youre gonna have to knockout the races and find bearings that will fit in the necktube and have a 10-12mm bolthole...make an outter spacer tube to secure inside the necktube to keep the bearings spaced.....It gets secured by drilling holes in the outter tube,,,installing the innertube spaced right and welding the holes closed trapping the tube securely...Then youll need another spacer tube for the inner part of the bearings.........

Yeah i saw that my bike uses the bikecycle neck setup. I didnt know how the neck setup was on the x7 or x18. But i should still be able to use the forks. Since both are 26mm thick. Just wouldnt be able to use the triple trees w/o doing alot of fab work. Correct?

Yes you should be able to use the X1 triple trees w/the better forks....id use the top fork bracket as an extra lower fork brace...It makes a world of difference.....

I used this X2 to do a lil speed training ...I used it for messing around for some friendly neighborhood racing in a parking lot...I braced the front forks with an aluminum bar which was a handle from a MC Culloch chainsaw.............

It comes with triple clamps, that's the forks I bought, there nice and chrome. You can sell or trade the clamps for something you need. They want $30 for just the clamps, I had to buy handle clips too.
