Ive been hanging around the site for a while, learning what i could before jumping into my own bike i recently picked up, but found a few gaps in my knowledge that are sort of important. Thanks to Cam2 and some others that have posted diagrams of engines and wiring diagrams.
Ive got a 49cc cateye, with no body, seat (lol who needs that), bad parts everywhere, and all the wiring ripped out. no electronics anywhere, just wire stubs.
My first question that i have not been able to find a solid answer to is how to wire up a kill switch i saw somewhere a basic idea, but got a little confused. Im new to small enigines but not wiring and soldering: where do i attach the kill switch wire to the engine? That runs up to the switch, which grounds it out to the frame, yes?
Second, ive seen some pictures of what look like homemade mufflers in some profile pictures, is it easy enough to do with a can? You know, tight budget and all. Ive got a Monster BFC i was planning on putting on, thoughts?
And lastly, How is the throttle attached to the pin on the throttle lever? mine is rusted tight and i would like to get a few more parts disconnected to replace some in the middle.
Thanks guys!

There should be one or two small wires coming off your coil under the plastic Cyld cover. The bike has a magneto Ign, so it runs on it's own. Get the bike running and touch the wire or wires to ground one at atime to see which one grounds the coil, so it don't spark to the plug. With two wires one it grounded to the coil frsme and the other runs to the handle bar kill switch or your added toggle switch. one wire goes to switch and out the other side and back to the grounded wire so when you hit the button it grounds the coil and the engine stops.

hey can any one help me with a speedometer..on a cat eye pocketbike..i know that x2 pocket bikes have magnets on the front wheel..but the cat eye doesnt..any help....

cateye speedometers are controlled from the white wire coming off of the control module..The speedometer is more of a tach than a speedo and isnt accurate at all....If you want a cheap digital speedo for around $20 bux shipped that is accurate look up Cateye Velo 5 and Velo 8...........

Help! Trying to hook up an analong tach

Can any one confirm my thinking. I have 49cc cateye with pull cord start only that has all the electrics removed. The only thing left is the two wires coming off the coil to a kill switch. I'd like to hook up a analog tach I got off ebay. The tach has 3 wires, positive, nagative and a signal wire. My thinking is, I need to put a 12V battery in it and charge it periodically with a charger just to run the tach. For wiring it up, I would hook the Tach's positive wire to the battery's positive post with a on/off switch in between the connection. Hook the Tach's negative wire to the battery's negative post which is also grounded to the bike. Finally connect the Tach's signal wire to the wire coming off the coil that is not grounded. Will this work or will I damage or burn up my coil?

E-mail the people you bought it from and ask if it will work on a 2 stroke, they show 4 strokes, but I also saw, works on any motorcycle.

I just picked one of these up for $30 so far all is looking good just confused by one thing. There is a black box in the jumble of wires that has about twelve wires on it. One set of two wires with clip at end, one set with 8 wires (one fused)and clip at end and two black wires. I have not found a wiring diagram with this component yet, but otherwise seems to be only thing that is different(other that have three displays one is speed, one is battery, and one for lights. Thanks any help would be awesome.

Don't have wiring dia. for that. I do have a few of the 49cc piston port engines. Since you have an electric start, you have a starter motor and generator in that alum housing that the starter cover w/ pull rope bolts too. The engine runs on it's own, like a chainsaw, magnets in the flywheel and coil mounted over it. All you need is a rope and a kill button, the 2 small wires off the coil. That box is probably voltage rectifier, make AC current to DC to charge your battery and run lights and battery to run starter motor. Online on the www. .com, go to sdscooters in Texas, and fine their Tech Page, where they have a bunch of pocket bike wiring dia.

I had to sodder part of the fuse wire back on and theres a blue and brown wire unhooked that im not sure what they go to. Need some help getting it running. Also does anyone know what type of battery it takes, I seen 12v 7ah online. But I wanted to buy it at Napa, couldnt find it online.

im also having a problem with my X7 pocket bike, im not getting a spark. could it be the cdi controller? i put in a new plug and selenoid. also the wire that goes to the motor by the pull start from the selenoid gets hot? also, i bought a new turn signal, headlight, horn controller, and it has an extra brown wire coming out of it....does any one know how im supposed to wire this to the existing wires? what colors go where, bc they are not the same as what was already existing.

Do you have a 2 or 4 stroke engine in the X7? A 2 stroke don't have a CDI or stator plate that powers the 4 stroke CDI and coil. A 2 stroke has 2 magnets in the flywheel and a coil over them like a chainsaw, or a magneto system. On a 2 stroke the coil could be bad.
