Hey everyone. I have an issue with a Baja Warrior (MB165 I believe). It has the 196cc motor which appears to be similar to the Honda GX series as best I can tell from ordering parts. The issues is the sump cover keeps coming loose. It started when I replaced the jack shaft/chain drive assembly because it was pretty well worn out. The only difference being it has the metal chain cover in place of the plastic one. The first time it happened I didn't think too much of it because my son is pretty rough on it. So I ordered a gasket set, replaced the sump cover gasket and crank seal. I didn't torque the cove to any specs but made sure they were tight. The cover came loose in 10 minutes. This has happed 4 times now. I have used blue locktite, tried red locktite, and cleaned the bolts threads to ensure a good bond. Tried adding lock washers and still comes loose. The Honda GX says 10 ft/lb which didn't seem very tight but stayed with it. Then tried 15 ft/lb. No go. Then just tightened as much as I was comfortable. We cant get more than 20 minutes out of it. I am baffled! we have even had the bolts fall right out. Im hoping someone else has seen this. It ran fine most of the summer until we replaced the drive assembly. Also did a new clutch, not that it should matter. Any advise would be much appreciated.

You sound like you need a small lesson in hardware...……..

Just know when screws loosen means they've been torqued and stretched beyond being able to be re-torqued or re-used again and must be changed out with new plus the holes re-tapped with a tap called a chase tap and the holes cleaned out with brakeparts cleaner and compressed air...…..

After that brand new hardware must be bought / used and a torque wrench too...

You can try the fix which may not work because the holes in the aluminum crankcase have been opened-up or oblonged or you can simply go to Harbor Freight Tools and buy a new 7hp Predator engine for $125...….

Sometimes you can get away with JB Welding the casecover also the screws and calling it a day after a good 24 hour curing......

Thanks CAM I really appreciate it. I've never heard of the bolts issue but it makes sense. Ill probably just get a motor. My kid is homeschooled so we're doing small engines repairs as a shop class. These are the exact things I want him (and myself) to learn. Thanks again.
