MX650 mods?

559356 Views 2070 Replies 210 Participants Last post by  Atvrunner2
hey im about to buy an mx650, and i was wondering what my best bet would be to go faster. Should i just change the sprocket size, get a different motor, or change it to 48V? What would the best option be for the best price. Im plannin to take it out on dirt jumps.

Thanks.

These are the dimensions of the motors that drop into the razor mx500/650

And these are the dimensions of the 1000w motors

As you can see the 1000w motors (36v and 48v, I checked) are all almost 3/4 of an inch longer and to make sure the sprockets line up you'd have to shave off that 3/4 of an inch from the left side (opposite of the chain side) of the swing arm, reinforcing what remains to avoid flex and warping and remake the 2 hole mounting bracket to accommodate the 1/2 inch wider diameter... a substantial amount of work for gaining 200w over the drop in 36v 800w brushed motor, 48v 1800w or even more powerful brushless motor. Can it be done? Absolutely! But I'm pretty sure even Helen Keller could see that it's not worth the hassle in the end.

Can you please email me about how you have created the front fork mod. I am in dyer need of better suspension, and cant find anything. I would really really appreciate it if you would tell me what you bought, and a little bit about how you made it. email me and [email protected]. thank you.

Which set of forks did you use?
I've been coming here for a few things since I'm building 2 MX for my kids. Ones complete the other almost is. Blue one is just a hopped up 36v and a different controller. Paint and plastic batteries and bars/grips and shock.

The other is 48v 15ah 1800w brushless. With custom downhill forks and 160mm front and rear disc with MTB calipers. Rear shock, and other stuff. Still waiting on direct mount 31.8 bar mount and handlebars and it'll be finally finished!
Thanks took a few ideas from a couple people here and on YouTube. View attachment 156390 View attachment 156391 View attachment 156392 View attachment 156393
So is MX650 mod opportunity saturated that there is no activity on this thread for 9 months?? I just got mx650 and getting started. What does good look like in 2024? That's right, not 2023

What are you looking to do?
More power?
A Li ion battery will always be the first mod required.

I do a lot of mods for people. There is one I am doing within the next week. 48 volt 1000 watt controller and lithium battery. Simple mod, best bang for your buck. But still not everyone wants to spend $350

For just the speed control in my new drift RC car is more then $200 I would consider $350 very inexpensive to complete the mods.

Ha, very true.
