New member, looking to make mini-atv more fat guy friendly

Hey all, nice little community you have here...

I just picked up a ZStar mini-atv for my kids but have found I also like to take it for a burn once in awhile. Trouble is, this little thing isn't made for a 200+ old dad like me, and the rear axle is flexing when I go over bumps, ultimately causing the chain to pop off...

Any ideas/kits to make these things a little more 'fat guy' friendly?!

Thanks,

C.

Youre gonna need a welder,,scrap steel and some skills but it can be pulled off...The other alternative is downsizing to 185/190 I hate to say....The older mini-quads used to be able to handle riders up to 265/270 easily.....
I'm currently doing a Zstar build, and have the same flimzy looking axle... You can have one machined from a solid rod of carbon steel, have it polished and treated, at a machine shop with reverse engineering equipment. I did it myself and basicly payed only for the steel, but it would probably run you up 300-400 dollars. Also, PBU sells an 8" machined solid steel rear axle for 109$, I'll post the link for it below.

PBU also sells all kinds of performance kits, but they are very expensive, and you can probably match it for half the price with a 3 port billet head kit with 12mm wrist pin, some better reeds, a Full circle crank, a good pipe, and a Del'orto replica pumper carb... plus a few home made mods that will basically maximize the potential of what you have at hand.

I'm barely 275 dollars into my build and have most of whats listed above, aside from the pipe which I just started cutting today, since Jet Pro pipes are not very quad friendly, lol.

anyways, here's the link to that axle:

I had to mod my own Jetpro exhaust I bought for my piston ported cag to fit my reeded engine cag....Theres only a few bikes they just install into with minimal mods to mounting area.......

This Cag build-up/remodel Im into $240 with cost of bike and the parts to finish it is gonna be another $90 bucks.........$330 isnt a bad budget build-up for gaining great handling,,power and performance............A new cag shipped to your door bone stock costs a lil more and is of crappier quality......

Thanks for all the responses. I discovered tonight that my kid can ride it no problem without the chain coming off, so it's definitely weight related :)

I think I'm going to go the more "farmer" route and grab a stainless piece of 5/8" keyed shaft rod from princess auto for $25. I can also get a new thicker sprocket for 8$ and new heavier bearings for like $5 each.

If I want to get more bottom end jam out of it, will changing the rear sprocket size help? And if so, do I go bigger or smaller? Or what other mod might help in this department? Mine is really boggy on takeoff..
sprocket size will help, but if you have a dremmel, you can up the RPMs by reworking and porting the stock head, piston and Carb. th
