Hello all. First Time pocket Biker, actually Pocket Biker Dad. Hoping to get the kids riding around the neighborhood on them. Reason I found this page was for information regarding a rebuild of with what I was told is a X1 Cateye. I will be posting on another thread for information regarding that but want to say thanks for everyones knowledge and help in my future projects. Hoping that more than one bike is in my future.

Welcome to the forum.....No need to start another thread...Just ask the questions here and they will be answered.....

An X1 and a Cateye are two entirely different pocketbikes...If you have both they are both pretty similar and pretty easy to get running...….....

The black bikes are Cateyes and the blue bike between them is an X1...……….

Thanks for the information. I did not know they were difference bikes. I added a pictures of my bike to my Garage. The handle bar has a sticker that says GS-120 I think, can remember at the moment. Currently I am in process of removing everything (I dont have any plastic pieces other than a seat) so its hard to tell by the pictures. My plan for the next few weeks is disassemble and Parts Wash everything I can. I have a friend that does powder coating so I'm going to give him the Frame and Rims to coat.

My first concern is that the wiring is hacked up and really there is none. Looking at some of the wiring diagrams I started to write down what I have to get for rebuilding the electrical. I think a few major items are the Solenoids and the Controller. I really would like to get at least the bare minimum right now to get the bike running to see if it even does. The engines (came with a spare) both have "Good" Compression according the the guy that sold me the bike. I have not verified that, carbs will need a good cleaning and new line runs. The Mechanical is simple for me as I have rebuilt a handful of 2 Strokes.

the bike should have spark and run by pull starting with no wires going to the engine hooked up the kill switch works by shorting the wire comeing from the coil to ground all the rest of that wiring mess is just pure novelty

its just a weed wacker engine 🙂

Yeah I was going to try that, but first I have to get 1) a spark plug lol, 2) Coil and wire to the spark plug. Also there is a no pull starter mechanism which is something I need to buy, amazon or ebay seem to have them.

Has anyone made a Parts list for items that need to be purchased to build a wire harness?

Your best bet is to buy all new switches and lights that are good quality and made for full size motorcycles then rewire the bike using good copper wire from the auto parts store and a common ground wiring scheme

If you try to reuse or use new Chinese wiring stuff it's all just going to fall apart and go to crap and be really frustrating to work on and it'll never really work quite right...

Thanks, I was planning on rewiring using my own wire. A new harness seems to be hard to find or very expensive ($125). I didnt buy the used bike to drop as much as a new one in parts quite yet. Im assuming once I get it all apart and logged I will know more of what I need. There are still switches attached to the hand bar rings. I see a horn (dont really need that). I am having a hard time seeing how the lights will be attached without the front plastic. Do they mount to the frame or plastic pieces?

I have the headlight assembly. Which I think mounts to the front plastic clip or wind shield, which I don’t have. I may have to bend some metal and make hard mounts.

Good news is I do see a coil attached to one engine so I just have to get a pull start and spark plug and should be able to fire one up.

The generator/starter housing and magnets just rob the engine of power, the wiring and lights sucks like MrKitty says. You can use your starter button as a kill button. www. aliexpress .com in China has tons of motorcycle pocket bike parts. Search motorcycle lights and electrics. LED lights and blinkers are cheap, and bright head and tail lights. Run a 12v battery to run the lights and just recharge it when it gets low.
There are a few types of starter housings and pawls, make sure you get the right one.

I have attached a handful of pictures that show the bike, and more of the two engines (one mounted, one off). If I want to just use the pull start would I pull the starter housing off with the coil and magnets? or leave that in place? The motor that it mounted looks like the shaft that I would mount the Pawl to is none existent. The spare motor already has a pawl attached. Would it be better for me to just build up that motor offline then swap them? At the end of the day Im going to pull everything off the frame to clean it anyways.

Using these pictures can someone tell me if I have an X1 or a Cateye? so I dont end up buying the wrong parts.

The shank bolt sheared off inside of the starter/generator i can tell by the pictures that starter/gen is no good anyway last time this happened to me I was able to bust the starter housing away from the starter Armature and put the thing into a vice and use various torches crowbars hammers sawzall to get it apart

yeah that is what I was thinking. So are you saying I should plan on just rebuilding the one with the Arm not snapped off.

Basically by the time you buy a new pull starter cog starter/generator ( if you can even find a new shank bolt ) carby then assuming the coil and the rest of the engine is still good you're halfway to buying a whole new engine.

Yeah I saw online that the motors are relatively cheap. Im just not sure which on to buy without knowing exactly what bike I have. I am not sure if that matters or not.

ok thanks. This isn't some souped up engine right? this bike is for my 6-10 year olds. I dont need anything crazy lol.

That's what you need, its a stock engine around 3 hp. As the kids grow you can make more power.

Trying to find out if this would work for my bike I’m rebuilding. Thought I may give it a shot before I pull the trigger on the $89 one.

Echo pe225 / srm225 long block. Srm 210 / 225 gear box.
Bump head, gas cap. Carb. Coil. Air filter assembly and recoil.
All for 25 bucks long block has virtually no time on it.
