Hey guys, I got an email back from Akunar in Thailand and they no longer sell the 26mm clip ons i wrote them about (first pic) because they were poorly welded... they DO now make their own bars that are NOT welded but true sport bike style clip ons.

The new ones (second pic) sell for $30 usd and can be anodized to what ever color you want. I did not get a shipping quote from them yet but i wrote them back and requested it. If anyone else is interested in clip on bars and wants to work out a group buy we can try to save a few bucks on shipping from Thailand.

also of note is that the new style bars are set at a 5 degree angle, they also have bars set at a 10 degree angle but they are $40 a set.

I am gonna see if they sell just the bars too and possibly order an extra set of bars, that way i have em if the bike goes down and a bar gets bent.

Sounds good unless the shipping is ridiculous. I got my silencer from Thailand. The free shipping took about 20 days. It came throught the mail.
If i'm not mistaken the package weight is factored into their shipping calculations. And you can use bars from the full size bikes.

yea they are the same size i would imagine... im just kinda partial to blue LOL im sure i can find some blue ones here in the states

im waiting on info for shipping so once i get that and we get some more buyers on board we can work this out. i def want a pair as long as its not too much for shipping.
I'll take a red set of em once we find out the shipping that is

Is it more money to have them anodized tho???
Can't wait to here the news.
the colors come at no extra charge, thats the good news...
the bad news is it is kind of expensive, heres the breakdown the guy wrote me:

"Hi Jae,

Delivery costs will vary on the method used obviously which we can quote accordingly at the time. For an example to send 1 set and 5 with a couple of different methods your looking at….

1 x Bars
Economy Airmail $30.00 USD
Regular airmail 2weeks to a month delivery time $31.70 USD
EMS express mail 1-3weeks $40.33 USD
Sea Mail 1-2months $18.33 USD
FedEx $81.53 USD

5 x Bars
Economy Airmail $63.33 USD
Regular airmail 2weeks to a month delivery time $98.33 USD
EMS express mail 1-3weeks $133.33 USD
Sea Mail 1-2months $37.00 USD
FedEx Using a 10kg promo box $163.97 USD For this price with FedEx 10 sets can be set for the same price.

What most US customer make use of is the FedEx 10kg and 25kg promo sizes which work out the most cost effective. The 25kg promo box can fit in 27 sets and is $230.00 USD"

so if we can get 5 people in and want to do a 5 set order i suggest either the economy air or sea mail if noone minds waiting a bit. economy air would be and extra $12ish a set and sea would only be like $7 a set. now that is to get them to one US address, then they would have to be individually sent out from here, so add that postage too.

i am still pretty much in because these look to be really nice clip on bars and i hate the bars that r on there now. i dont mind waiting or paying the extra to go economy air, he doesnt say how long econmy air takes but i figure around 4-6weeks. its majority rule tho so whatever we decide as a group is good for me.

You guys ever think of visiting a local machine shop? If they have the bits drilling a couple of holes in a piece of aluminum isnt going to be very expensive.

Just a thought

Hugh
SDscooters
All the (local) machine shops around me have all gone corporate and I have tried a couple of them for small items and my cheapest quote for some custom rear adjuster blocks was $120 lol I was like really I can get one close to what I want for 9.99 shipped
Just a block with a lip and a hole
They will only do it if they use there machine I forget what one it is but it's like going to a local shirt company and showing them what u want they charge 1-200 to make the Initial sketch or proof then any shirt after that is like $20 same with all these local machine shops
I am gonna try my local motor guy and see if he still has all the machines he used to and see if he can make something for me
