I am working on an X1 that is in pretty good shape although not running yet. When I got it the pull start was off of it and the claw and bolt though the starter were missing. I pulled the starter off and the bolt was broken off at the crank. It was an easy broken bolt removal with a easy out so I rebuilt it with a parts off another bike (temporary parts bike).

Cleaned the carb and gas lines and tank and when i went to start her up she kicked back and sheared the bolt off again. This time it was sticking out enough to easily remove after I pulled the starter off.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is this because of:

1) A bad bolt?

2) An idiot (me) who over tightened the bolt with his air wrench?

Anyone have torque recomendations?

I'd like to have an idea of what happened before I try and put it together and start it again.
